Lebanon continued its participation in the 20th Mediterranean Games.
Held in the Italian city of Taranto, the competition featured intense matches and clear technical disparities with the champions of the participating nations.
In the Mediterranean Games judo competition, Fadi Yoshido Saqli faced Spain’s Daniel Trinidad in the semifinals.
Saqli came close to securing a medal after pinning his opponent for four seconds, but he needed one more second.
In the end, he lost by warning with a score of 0–100 under the “ippon” system.
Similarly, Yara Tarbieh lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Aleksandra Samar Dozik due to a foul.
In table tennis, Saad al-Din al-Habash and Bisan Shiri were eliminated from the mixed doubles competition in the round of 16.
They lost to the Slovenian duo 1–3.
Talia Azar, Saad al-Din al-Habash, and Michel Abi Nader also lost their matches in the men’s and women’s singles 0–4.
In the triathlon, Lebanese-American Andrew Doharty finished 20th out of 32 participants.
He completed the sprint race in one hour, one minute, and 24 seconds.
The race consisted of a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride, and a 5-kilometer run.
Meanwhile, Major General Suhail Khoury visited the Lebanese delegation’s headquarters.
He congratulated the team members on shooter Samer Sarkis’s gold medal, urging the athletes to continue their efforts and present a positive image of Lebanon.
