Beirut Hosts the Lebanon International Theater Festival

The “Tiro Arts” Association and “Istanbul Theater” announced the organization of the Lebanon International Theater Festival in Beirut.

The festival will take place from September 19 to 22. It will feature theatrical performances from Lebanon, Arab countries, and abroad.

Under the slogan “Theater: Entertainment That Addresses Society’s Concerns.”

According to a statement, this 13th edition “pays tribute to Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi for his contributions to Arab theater through the founding of the Arab Theater Authority. It also honors his great achievements.”

The founder of the Lebanese National Theater, actor and director Qasim Istambouli, emphasized that “the goal of the festival is to confront the war that Lebanon is experiencing.”

He continued: “It is important that the theater remain open to the people in times of war and peace.”

He added: “Thanks to the efforts of young volunteers, we will transcend cultural centralization. We will break down the imaginary wall between Lebanese regions through the arts, and connect them through cultural spaces.”

The statement noted that “Istanbul received the UNESCO Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture in Paris. He was also appointed as a cultural advisor to the Advisory Board of the Cultural Exchange Foundation in Boston.”

One of his quotes is: “Theater is entertainment that carries the concerns of society.”

The jury selected Istambouli for his pioneering and unique contribution to the restoration and reopening of numerous closed movie theaters in Lebanon.
