Fadi Dagher Named President of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police

Fadi Dagher, the Lebanese-born police chief of Montreal, was elected president of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police for a two-year term.

This latest development reflects his prominent role in the Canadian security sector.

Dagher was elected during the association’s annual meeting in Edmonton.

He succeeds Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Thomas Carrick, who has held the presidency since 2024.

The new position does not mean Dagher will leave his post as chief of the Montreal Police Service.

Rather, it adds to his responsibilities a national role in setting public safety priorities and addressing the challenges facing Canadian police forces and communities.

Fadi Dagher is of Lebanese descent.

He grew up in Ivory Coast before moving to Canada.

In 2023, he made history with the Montreal Police Service by becoming the first person from a visible minority to lead it.

Since taking office, Dagher has focused on strengthening the relationship between the police and diverse communities.

He has also worked to combat discrimination and racism and to improve public safety services.

For its part, the Consulate General of Lebanon in Montreal and Consul General Charbel Nimr congratulated Dagher.
Sharing their pride in the successes achieved by the Lebanese diaspora and their assumption of prominent positions in Canada.
