Comments made by France national team captain Kylian Mbappé regarding his deservingness of the Ballon d’Or as the world’s best player were met with derision from former Athletic Bilbao player Julen Guerrero.
Guillermo was surprised that the Real Madrid star presented himself as the top candidate.
He pointed out that comparing Mbappé to Cristiano Ronaldo is unfair because the latter has won everything with Real Madrid.
Mbappé presented himself as the top candidate for the award for the world’s best player.
He is the top scorer in La Liga, the Champions League, and the World Cup, as well as the all-time leading scorer in World Cup history.
Former Athletic Bilbao player Julen Guerrero said on the “Radio Estadio” program:
Kylian Mbappé is an exceptional player and could win the Ballon d’Or, but can he be compared to Cristiano Ronaldo?
He continued: “Ronaldo has won everything with Real Madrid, while Mbappé hasn’t celebrated a single title with ‘Los Blancos.’”
“We’ll see if those comments will harm his career, because he’s put himself under the microscope.”
He concluded: “Mbappé’s goals must translate into titles, because he’s been playing for Real Madrid for two years.”
But he hasn’t won La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup, or the Champions League.
Therefore, without titles, his time with “Los Merengues” will be considered a failure.
