CD Eldense, one of Spain’s second-division clubs located near the city of Alicante, has announced that Argentine star Lionel Messi has become the club’s official owner.
The club said in a statement: “Deportivo Eldense officially announces that Lionel Messi has acquired the club.”
This marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in the club’s history, which spans more than 100 years.
The deal still requires approval from Spain’s Higher Sports Council.
This step is considered a formality, though the club has not disclosed any details regarding the financial terms.
This is Messi’s second venture as a major shareholder in a Spanish club, and his first with a professional club. The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star, who is currently in his fourth season with Inter Miami in the United States, already owns UE Cornellà, a fifth-division club.
