Arsenal and Liverpool secured their spots in the fourth round of the English Football League Cup after notching two important wins in the third round.
Arsenal defeated host Ipswich Town 4–2 in a match that featured a stellar performance by 16-year-old rising star Max Doman.
Doman opened the scoring in the 7th minute, before Noni Madueke added the second goal in the 16th minute.
Early in the second half, Doman returned to score his second goal of the match and his team’s third in the 47th minute.
He also set up the fourth goal for his Spanish teammate Mikel Merino in the 58th minute.
Meanwhile, Ipswich scored their first goal through Albanian Anis Mohamedi in the 62nd minute.
Chuba Akpom added the second goal in the first minute of stoppage time.
In another match, Liverpool defeated Tottenham 3–1 at Anfield.
Alexis McAllister, Cody Gakpo, and Dominik Szoboszlai scored for Liverpool.
Conor Gallagher scored Tottenham’s only goal. With these results, both teams continued their steady march toward contending for the league title.
