The National Commission for Lebanese Women held two coordination meetings to strengthen the role of women in peace and reconstruction.
As part of the implementation of the Second National Action Plan for the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security.
The meetings focused on Priority 3, which concerns fostering a culture of peace and conflict prevention.
and Priority 4, which concerns achieving a comprehensive, gender-responsive response in relief and reconstruction efforts.
Coordinating Efforts and Supporting Women’s Participation
The meetings aimed to strengthen coordination among ministries, national institutions, civil society, and international organizations.
Participants also discussed planned interventions, progress made, existing challenges, and next steps for implementation.
The Commission’s Secretary-General, Attorney Natalie Za’arour, emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of dialogue and social cohesion.
She stressed the need to strengthen women’s participation in national dialogues, negotiations, mediation, reconciliation, and conflict prevention.
For her part, the UN Women representative in Lebanon, Jilan Al-Masiri, explained that women’s participation enhances the effectiveness of prevention and the quality of decisions, and supports sustainable peace.
Attorney Lara Saadeh reviewed the third and fourth priorities before discussing follow-up and cooperation mechanisms.
The plan is being implemented in partnership with UN Women and with support from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
