The “Hariri Foundation for Sustainable Human Development,” through the “Lebanon Youth Advancement Forum,” organized a workshop titled “Toward a Declaration of the Smart Republic.”
The event took place at the National State Academy in Sidon.
The initiative marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Lebanese Republic, with the participation of 65 young men and women from Sidon and the surrounding area.
The Foundation’s President, Bahia Hariri, emphasized that the Smart Republic does not replace humans with machines, but rather harnesses technology to bring knowledge closer to citizens.
It also makes institutions more transparent and opens up opportunities for participation to new generations.
She also called for transforming the idea into a national project that puts intelligence at the service of the Republic.
For his part, Forum Director Mohammed Ismail presented a vision spanning from 2026 to 2126.
He explained that a smart state is not merely a digital state, but one that learns and anticipates the future.
It makes decisions based on data, while preserving human dignity and the rule of law.
Participants also discussed six main themes: modernization, governance, science and philosophy, climate change, youth and generations, and artificial intelligence.
Virtual members and advisors participated in presenting their views and recommendations.
In conclusion, the young people drafted the “Declaration of the Smart Republic” and voted on its priorities, paving the way for the completion of the workshops and the formulation of a Lebanese vision for the next 100 years.
