The Lebanese Olympic Committee honored shooter Samer Sarkis in recognition of his gold medal win in the skeet shooting competition at the 20th Mediterranean Games, “Taranto 2026.”
This was the only medal won by the Lebanese delegation at the Games.
The ceremony honoring Samer Sarkis was held at the Olympic Committee’s headquarters in Hazmieh.
In attendance were Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah, President of the Asian Shooting Federation; Dr. Boutros Jalakh, President of the Lebanese Olympic Committee; as well as sports officials and media representatives.
Jalkh emphasized that Sarkis’s achievement marks Lebanon’s first gold medal in men’s skeet in the 75-year history of the Mediterranean Games.
He also praised the Lebanese champion’s victory over his Italian Olympic rival, Gabriele Rossetti, noting that the win received widespread media coverage.
For his part, Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah congratulated Sarkis, noting that Lebanon is a country that produces champions and that the Asian Shooting Confederation will continue to support Lebanese shooting and honor its achievements.
During the ceremony, Jalakh presented a commemorative plaque to Sheikh Salman, before Samer Sarkis received the Olympic Committee’s trophy.
The Lebanese champion thanked all his supporters, emphasizing that his work as a lawyer did not prevent him from committing to training and preparing for the Games.
He also promised to achieve further honorable results and raise the Lebanese flag at future competitions.
The event concluded with the cutting of a cake and the taking of commemorative photos.
