The “Qaf Book Club” commemorated the 54th anniversary of the passing of Palestinian writer Ghassan Kanafani and the anniversary of the passing of poet Mahmoud Darwish.
The event took the form of a poetry and cultural festival titled “Poetry Is Our Last Tent.”
Participants included Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Harb, Professor Durriya Farhat, and poets Basil Abdel Aal and Saad al-Din Shalq.
The event was hosted and moderated by writer Rosanna al-Sayyid Baghdadi.
The festival’s segments ranged from poetry to the visual arts.
Artist Alaa Al-Masri performed a musical piece, while visual artist Fatima Al-Sayed created a painting live in front of the audience.
The poetry readings addressed themes inspired by the literary and humanistic legacies of both Kanafani and Darwish.
This underscored the role of poetry in preserving collective memory and safeguarding the human narrative, as a space for expression, beauty, and belonging.
In conclusion, the administration of the “Qaf Book Club” presented commemorative plaques to the participants in recognition of their cultural contributions.
