The Ministry of Public Works and Transport, through the General Directorate of Land and Maritime Transport, announced the implementation of a number of projects to rehabilitate fishing ports in Lebanon.
The projects are aimed at rehabilitating and developing the infrastructure of the fishing sector.
The rehabilitation of fishing ports in Lebanon is part of its ongoing efforts to support fishermen. Moreover, it aims to enhance the sustainability of ports and marine facilities along the Lebanese coast.
In a statement, it explained that it has begun the work of reconstructing and rehabilitating the fishermen’s rooms at the port of Al-Manara – Ain Al-Mreissa in Beirut.
She continued: The project was implemented according to new plans. These plans include the construction of fully modern rooms instead of the previous facilities.
The work has reached the foundation implementation stage, and the workshops continue at a regular pace.
This is in preparation for the completion of the project and putting it at the service of fishermen.
The Ministry also followed up on the implementation of the project to rebuild the fishermen’s cooperative in the port of Barbara.
This was after the previous building was hit by a fire that destroyed it.
The project was fully implemented under the supervision of the General Directorate of Land and Maritime Transport. This ensured the restoration of basic facilities and services to fishermen in the area. As a result, there was a resumption of the cooperative in the best conditions.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport confirmed that these projects are part of its plan to develop maritime infrastructure.
In addition to improving the working conditions of fishermen, this project supports the fishing sector as one of the vital productive sectors in Lebanon.
The rehabilitation of fishing ports in Lebanon is one of the important files that contribute to their preservation.
