Lebanese students are confused about their situation: will the official examinations take place or will certificates be the solution? The Minister of Education appears determined, despite the circumstances and challenges, to conduct the official certificate examination.
Examinations Among the Impossibilities
There is near consensus that conducting the official examination appears to be among the impossibilities, as students are not following their school routines as they should, and the general circumstances do not allow for the completion of a proper academic year.
Students Unable to Reach School
Furthermore, there are tens of thousands of students unable to reach their schools, having been displaced from their villages and cities to other areas. Despite all the appeals and calls that have been made, the saying applies to the Minister of Education: “Don’t call out, no one is there.”
The Minister of Education, who does not answer the phone, refuses to make a decisive decision and leaves the matter to circumstances that may arise, considering that the outstanding Lebanese student can adapt to all circumstances.
It should be noted that official examinations have been canceled several times in the past, under circumstances less difficult than today’s conditions, whereby students received certificates to enter universities.
French Baccalaureate Canceled
In addition, the French Baccalaureate examinations have been canceled in Lebanon for this year, after the French government decided that the circumstances experienced by Lebanese students do not allow for conducting the examinations.
Therefore, educational circles believe that Minister of Education Rima Karami should stop being stubborn and yield to the will of the majority, putting an end to the worrying cycle of waiting that students are experiencing by making the bold decision to grant certificates to all students, especially as time is running out and universities cannot wait any longer.
Finally, given this reality and these facts, students should not be victims of wrong decisions. While it is true that the Lebanese certificate is distinguished by its advanced level, taking current circumstances into account is a necessary option.
