The Baalbek Municipality, in collaboration with the “Himaya” Association, launched the Baalbek Municipal Council for Children in Baalbek.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Abdul Rahim Shalha, along with municipal, voluntary, educational, cultural, and social leaders.
Project coordinator Dr. Ali Hassan explained that the council evolved from an idea into a project comprising children full of enthusiasm, energy, and determination.
He added that the selection process for members was conducted according to clear criteria, in coordination with schools and associations, to ensure representation from Baalbek’s various neighborhoods and schools, as well as girls and children with special needs.
The children also underwent a training course on dialogue, teamwork, responsibility, and initiative.
This was in preparation for turning their ideas into projects that serve the city.
Hassan called on the members to express themselves freely, discuss their proposals, and work as a team.
For his part, Municipal Council member Ali Murtada, speaking on behalf of Mayor Ahmad al-Tufayli, emphasized that the Baalbek Children’s Municipal Council is not a mere formality, but rather a school for citizenship, participation, and decision-making.
For her part, Ramona Al-Khoury, speaking on behalf of the “Himaya” Association, stressed the importance of providing a safe space for children to express their opinions and develop their abilities.
In conclusion, the members presented their ideas and proposals, after which Shalha honored them.
