Boeing is nearing a major deal with Turkish Airlines and is putting the finishing touches on a deal to sell Turkish Airlines approximately 150 737 MAX aircraft, after overcoming a dispute that had stalled negotiations and threatened to cause the Turkish carrier to withdraw.
According to four informed sources, the order is part of a massive package comprising 225 aircraft.
It was announced following a meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and U.S. President Donald Trump a year ago.
Negotiations had stalled due to a dispute over Turkish Airlines’ request to sign an industrial agreement regarding aircraft engine maintenance.
However, three sources confirmed that the deal is back on track, suggesting it will be signed next week.
The deal between Boeing and Turkish Airlines is part of the carrier’s plan to expand its fleet.
This coincides with the growth of its international route network and rising demand for air travel.
In turn, the 737 MAX represents a key element in Boeing’s strategy to regain its share of the single-aisle aircraft market.
