The Council of the Association of Universities in Lebanon held a meeting at the headquarters of the University of Balamand to announce a national platform for university degrees in Lebanon.
The meeting was attended by the President of the University of Balamand, Prof. Elias Warraq, and the Minister of State for Technology and Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Kamal Shehadeh. In addition, a representative of the Ministry of Education was present.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of various Lebanese universities. Furthermore, discussions were held on an agenda among the attendees.
Establishing a national platform
The meeting was dedicated to discussing the project of establishing a secure national platform. This platform adopts a technology for digital authentication of university degrees.
This has enabled the validation of certificates in a matter of seconds. It has also enhanced their reliability and recognition at the national and international levels.
A strategic step in the field of digital transformation
The participants stressed the importance of the project as a strategic step in the digital transformation of the higher education sector in Lebanon.
They also pointed out the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination between the Ministry of State for Technology and Artificial Intelligence Affairs. In addition, cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education was emphasized.
In addition to the Association of Lebanese Universities, in order to develop a clear implementation framework for the project.
They pointed out that the project should ensure its integration with the regulations adopted in higher education institutions.
Emphasis on cybersecurity
They stressed that the project should keep pace with global best practices in the fields of cybersecurity and data protection.
At the meeting, it was agreed to continue coordination between the concerned authorities. They also decided to start preparing a term sheet for the project.
This is in preparation for moving to the executive stages according to a unified national vision. This will occur after the establishment of a national platform for university degrees in Lebanon.
Finally, the participants stressed the importance of effective partnership between the public and private sectors.
They stressed that the development of the digital infrastructure of higher education was a key pillar. This pillar will enhance the quality of education.
They pointed out that the goal is to serve students and graduates, and to contribute to enhancing Lebanon’s academic position.
