Lebanese Students Await a Decision on Official Examinations
Lebanese students remain uncertain about their academic future. They still do not know whether the Ministry of Education will hold the official examinations or grant certificates instead.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Education Minister Rima Karami appears determined to proceed with the official examinations.
Examinations Face Major Obstacles
Many educators believe that holding the official examinations has become nearly impossible. Students have not followed a normal school schedule, while the current conditions have disrupted the academic year.
Schools have also struggled to complete their programs properly. As a result, many students may enter the examinations without receiving adequate preparation.
Displaced Students Cannot Attend School
Tens of thousands of students cannot reach their schools. Many families have left their villages and cities and moved to safer areas.
Educational groups have repeatedly called on the minister to make a clear decision. However, students and parents still await an official response.
The minister has not yet settled the issue. Instead, she appears to be waiting for possible changes in the situation. She also believes that Lebanese students can adapt to difficult circumstances.
Lebanon Canceled Examinations Before
Lebanon has canceled official examinations several times in the past. In some cases, the country faced less difficult circumstances than those affecting students today.
At the time, the authorities granted students certificates that allowed them to apply to universities.
France Cancels the Baccalaureate Examinations
The French authorities have canceled the French Baccalaureate examinations in Lebanon this year. They concluded that the current circumstances do not allow Lebanese students to sit for the examinations under fair and suitable conditions.
This decision has renewed calls for the Lebanese Ministry of Education to adopt a similar approach.
Educational Groups Demand a Clear Decision
Educational circles are urging Minister Rima Karami to end the uncertainty. They believe she should consider the opinion of most students, parents, and educators.
They are calling on the ministry to grant certificates to students instead of holding the examinations. Time is running out, and universities cannot delay their admission procedures indefinitely.
Students Should Not Pay the Price
Students should not become victims of decisions that ignore the current reality. The Lebanese official certificate maintains a respected and advanced academic standard.
However, the ministry must also consider the exceptional conditions facing students. A fair decision should protect their education, future, and ability to enter university without further delay.
