Mercedes-AMG’s electric SUV takes aim at Porsche

German automaker Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its first fully electric sport utility vehicle developed independently by its AMG division.

The move is aimed at competing with Porsche and strengthening Mercedes’ position in the high-performance luxury car market.

The new AMG GT SUV starts at $127,000 (113,000 euros).

It delivers up to 1,169 horsepower and a driving range of 700 kilometers on a single charge for the top-tier variants.

The vehicle can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.5 seconds.

Mercedes is betting on luxury models to boost its profitability, as part of a plan to launch 40 new or updated models by 2027.
