Wall Street Rises on the Back of U.S. Jobs Data

Wall Street indices opened with mixed results following the release of data showing a surprise decline in U.S. jobs last month.

The new figures prompted investors to reassess their expectations regarding the Federal Reserve’s decision in September.

The S&P 500 rose 0.33% to 7,735.18 points.

The Nasdaq also rose 0.71% to 26,534.66 points.

In contrast, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.07% to 53,849.26 points.

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed a decline of 23,000 in nonfarm payrolls.

Economists had expected an increase of 80,000 jobs.

Consequently, market expectations for a U.S. interest rate hike in September fell to 43.9%.

Conversely, the probability of interest rates remaining unchanged rose to 60.4%.

Markets are now awaiting new signals from the Federal Reserve to determine the course of monetary policy in the coming period.
