Musk paves the way for a SpaceX-Tesla merger

American businessman Elon Musk described a potential merger between SpaceX and Tesla as “a good idea.”

He confirmed that independent committees have been formed to study the move.

He explained that the decision rests with these committees, and then with shareholders, who will vote on any potential agreement.

Musk noted that he is not taking part in the committees’ discussions due to a conflict of interest. He believes a merger between the two companies would open up opportunities for collaboration in artificial intelligence, chip design, robotics, communications and space technology.

Chips boost cooperation prospects
At the same time, Musk announced that the joint “TeraFab” project aims to produce its first experimental chip in May or June of next year.

He is also aiming to begin large-scale production during the third quarter of 2028.

Following the statements and the financial results, SpaceX shares rose 8% in after-hours trading, while Tesla shares climbed 1.8%.

Artificial intelligence boosts revenue
On the results front, SpaceX announced a 161% increase in third-quarter revenue, reaching $14.58 billion.

The company also posted a net profit of $4.4 billion, compared with a loss a year earlier.

Artificial intelligence revenue surged to $7.56 billion, driven in particular by the leasing of data center capacity.

Meanwhile, capital expenditures rose to $19.6 billion.

The number of Starlink subscribers reached 13.6 million, exceeding expectations, despite a decline in the average monthly revenue per subscriber.

The readiness of the Starship rocket for repeated use remains a key element in the company’s future plans.
