Lebanon’s two teams post promising results in Taranto

Over the course of two days, the Lebanese delegation competed in the women’s weightlifting events at the 2026 Mediterranean Games, where Lebanon’s two weightlifters posted promising results.

Held in the Italian city of Taranto, the competition featured lifters Nadia Al-Saman and Alexa Mina, who faced stiff competition from the elite champions of Mediterranean nations.

Al-Saman competed in the 61-kilogram weight class instead of her usual 53-kilogram category due to organizational reasons.

Despite the weight difference, she successfully lifted 65 kg in the clean and jerk, improving her previous record from the West Asian Championships by 5 kg.

She also attempted to lift 70 kg but was unsuccessful, while her 61 kg snatch attempt was not counted due to a technical error.

Meanwhile, Alexa Mina, competing in the 69-kilogram weight class, lifted 80 kilograms on her first snatch attempt, then lifted 84 kilograms, before failing at 87 kilograms.

In the clean and jerk, she lifted 100 kg, then succeeded on her third attempt with 104 kg, placing ninth out of 11 competitors.

Coach Khader Maklad confirmed that they will continue working to improve the two weightlifters’ performances in preparation for upcoming competitions.
