Joelle Fadel Shines in the Service of the Arabic Language

The International Council for the Arabic Language has selected Lebanese researcher Dr. Joelle Fadel among the top fifteen researchers in service of the Arabic language.

The honor recognizes her research on using generative artificial intelligence to produce digital stories for teaching Arabic grammar.

Fadel heads the doctoral program at the Institute of Oriental Letters at Saint Joseph University in Beirut, where she also works as a lecturer.

She received the honor during a ceremony held alongside the 12th International Conference on the Arabic Language in Dubai, under the patronage of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation.

The scientific committee chose her research from some 600 papers submitted by participants from more than 70 countries.

The research presents the “Smart Arabic Narrative Design” model, known as “SARD,” which aims to bring grammar closer to learners through stories.

The model generates stories suited to the learner’s level and presents the grammatical rule within a living context before naming it.

It also sets linguistic and educational controls that guide the tool and maintain the quality of the educational content.

Fadel stressed that the model’s distinction lies in the methodology that governs the use of artificial intelligence. She emphasized that preserving the integrity of Arabic remains the primary standard, so that technology serves the language and supports its teaching.

Fadel was the only Lebanese researcher among the fifteen honorees, alongside researchers from Arab and foreign countries. The conference featured some 600 peer-reviewed papers and studies, spread across 82 scientific seminars, providing wide space for exchanging expertise and discussing ways to develop Arabic language teaching.
