Liverpool advanced to the quarterfinals of the English Football League Cup (Carabao Cup) after beating visitors Chelsea on penalties.
At Anfield, Liverpool defeated Chelsea 6-5 on penalties.
The two sides were forced to a shootout after drawing 1-1 in regulation time.
The match, part of the competition’s round of 16, was played on Wednesday evening.
Morgan Rogers put Chelsea ahead in the 40th minute from a penalty kick.
But Cody Gakpo quickly equalized for Liverpool in the 43rd minute, also from a penalty.
The two teams then went to a penalty shootout, which ultimately favored the side managed by Spanish coach Unai Emery.
