Global markets rise on support of AI stocks: Japanese yen falls to lowest level since 1986

Global markets witnessed a positive performance during today’s trading on Tuesday.

Supported by gains in technology and artificial intelligence stocks, the Japanese yen fell to its lowest level since 1986 against the U.S. dollar.

European stock exchanges recorded mixed gains.

Germany’s DAX rose 0.8% in global markets, and Britain’s FTSE 100 rose 0.4%.

France’s CAC 40 index gained slightly 0.1%.

In Asia, Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.9%, driven by continued momentum in the AI sector.

Shares of technology companies, led by Tokyo Electron and SoftBank, also rose, amid investor optimism about continued investments in the chip industry.

In South Korea, the Kospi rose 1% after earlier declines.

This came after Samsung Electronics and SK Hyinks announced plans to invest more than $500 billion in the chip and artificial intelligence sectors, boosting market confidence.

In contrast, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index fell 0.6%, while China’s Shanghai Composite index rose 0.5%.

Australia’s S/ASX 200 also rose, Taiwan’s TYX jumped 3.2%, while India’s Sensex fell 0.3%.

On the energy front, oil prices fell modestly.

Brent crude fell to about $73.40 a barrel.

West Texas Intermediate crude fell to around seventy dollars and twenty-two cents a barrel.

In the currency market, the USDJPY rose to 162 yen and 42 pph.

The yen hit its weakest level in nearly four decades, as the US currency continues to strengthen and monetary policy divergence between the US and Japan.
