European Stocks Fall Under Pressure from Oil Prices and Inflation

European stocks fell at the close of trading on Thursday.

This came as oil prices continued to rise and concerns about rising inflation resurfaced.

Meanwhile, a recovery in global bond markets helped limit the extent of losses in European stocks.

The Stoxx 600 index closed down 0.12% at 650.35 points.

This marked the seventh consecutive session of declines, the longest losing streak since September 2023.

Pressure on the markets came as talks between the United States and Iran over the conflict in the Middle East stalled.

This dampened hopes for a return to normal energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.

This has kept oil prices above $90 per barrel in recent days.

Energy stocks rose 0.9% as Brent crude futures climbed about 2.2%.

In contrast, travel and leisure stocks fell 0.7% due to concerns over rising fuel costs.

In the bond markets, eurozone bond yields stabilized after reaching high levels.

This was due to measures taken by the U.S. Treasury Department to support liquidity in the long-term debt market.

The French CAC 40 index also fell by 0.6% under pressure from luxury goods stocks.

In Germany, data showed that producer prices rose in July at the fastest pace in more than three years, fueling inflation concerns.
