Marqabawi: Raising Pharmacists Salaries Is a Necessity

Lebanese Pharmacists Call for Higher Commissions to Support the Sector

Abdul Rahman Marqabawi, president of the Lebanese Pharmacists’ Association, said pharmacists urgently need higher commissions to keep the pharmacy sector sustainable.

He explained that pharmacists have faced growing pressure in recent years. Lebanon’s economic crisis, wars, and repeated challenges have placed heavy financial burdens on pharmacies.

Marqabawi said the association has discussed the issue with Health Minister Rakan Nasir al-Din and other officials.

The association hopes to reach a fair solution soon.

He stressed that any decision should support pharmacists while also protecting citizens from extra costs.

Marqabawi spoke during a professional oath ceremony for around 200 pharmacists at the headquarters of the Lebanese Pharmacists’ Union.

Union members and the families of the new pharmacists attended the event.

During his speech, Marqabawi said pharmacy is more than a university degree or a job.

He described it as a profession based on responsibility, ethics, and care for others.

He also reminded pharmacists that people trust them with their health and safety.

For this reason, he stressed the importance of protecting patients and maintaining their trust.

Marqabawi added that improving pharmacists’ income remains one of the association’s main demands.

He also praised the Health Minister for understanding the challenges facing pharmacists and the pharmacy sector.

At the end of the ceremony, the new pharmacists took the professional oath and received their union membership certificates.
