Lebanese people celebrate the Feast of the Virgin Mary on August 15 of each year.
It is an occasion that combines prayer, Masses, and popular festivals.
It serves as a significant spiritual and social milestone across various regions of Lebanon.
Monsignor Pierre Tanios, Vicar General of the Maronite Diocese of Batroun and Pastor of the Diocese of Our Lady of the Assumption in Tannourine, emphasizes that the Feast of the Assumption is not merely a religious occasion.
Rather, it carries a universal Christian dimension.
The Church celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, body and soul, into the Kingdom of Heaven.
He explained that the Maronite Church has officially celebrated the dogma of the Assumption since its proclamation on November 1, 1950, by Pope Pius XII.
He noted the special place Mary holds in the Christian faith and in the hearts of the Lebanese.
Although festivals are widespread in villages and towns, Tanios believes that popular celebrations do not detract from the spirituality of the feast.
Rather, they can combine faith and joy, especially given the continued high turnout for Masses and prayers.
The Feast of the Virgin Mary in Lebanon remains an occasion that brings families and believers together around the values of love and hope.
It serves as a reminder that the most beautiful way to honor Mary is to live out her message through faith, prayer, and love for others.
