Lebanon is strengthening its presence in the Islamic Solidarity Union, as the 15th General Assembly of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation was held in the Saudi city of Taif.
The meeting took place from September 11 to 13, 2026.
Chaired by Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal Al Saud, the meeting was attended by representatives from fifty-seven countries.
Lebanon was represented by a delegation from the Lebanese Olympic Committee, which included Vice President Grand Master Sami Qablawi and Secretary General Retired Brigadier General Hassan Rustam.
The assembly reviewed the Secretary General’s report and a number of statutory items.
It also saw the election of a new Board of Directors for the term spanning 2026 to 2029.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal was re-elected by acclamation as President of the Federation, alongside his vice presidents Nawal Al-Mutawakkil, Gennady Golovkin, and Prince Fahd bin Jalawi Al Saud.
In addition, the workshops discussed initiatives to develop sports, support athletes, and strengthen partnerships.
On the sidelines of the meetings, Qablawi met with Union President Rostam and a number of representatives from member states to discuss ways to cooperate on upcoming events.
In a new administrative achievement for Lebanon, Muay Thai athletes Zofak Koshkarjian and Juan Saif were selected to join the “Voice Up” Athletes’ Committee.
This followed their participation in the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games and their successful completion of a series of interviews and tests.
This selection gives Lebanese athletes the opportunity to share their experiences and actively participate in international sports decision-making.
