The Municipality of Bajj, in the Jbeil District, announced that its mayor, Rustam Saibi, had signed a strategic agreement with “Me Green.”
The company is funded by “Cnergies,” a subsidiary of “Coral.”
The agreement allows for the use of municipal land to build a solar power plant, in a move aimed at supporting clean energy and sustainable development.
The municipality explained that the project will contribute to providing sustainable and low-cost energy.
This will help residents cope with the continuous rise in fuel prices and electricity generator bills.
It also noted that the plant constitutes a pillar of both environmental and economic security in the town.
The solar energy project in Bajah comes after more than five years of efforts led by a specialized committee comprising the mayor and engineers Ghassan Abi Aql, Tarek Saqr, and Jack Saadeh.
The idea for the project originated as part of the Norwegian “United Cities” initiative in 2021, before it stalled due to the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The municipality emphasized that the project represents a quantum leap toward a more sustainable future.
It helps build a green, safe, and equitable town. The municipality concluded by stressing that the municipal council’s goal will remain improving the quality of life for all residents of Bejah.
