The Baalbek International Festivals announced that last year, in partnership with UNESCO, it launched the “Empowering Women at the Baalbek Festivals” project.
In a statement, the festival noted that the project was implemented between May and September of last year.
It provided participants with comprehensive educational opportunities and hands-on experiences.
It enabled them to participate in various stages of planning and artistic production for one of Lebanon’s most prestigious cultural festivals.
They gained practical experience and advanced artistic and technical skills that qualified them to enter the cultural job market.
The statement noted that a group of artists, academics, and professionals active in the cultural field
alongside universities and civil society organizations.
The festival also saw active female participation across various aspects of the work.
From planning, production, and management, through the design and execution of costumes for the opera “Carmen,”
to organizing visual arts workshops and participating in the preparation of exhibitions open to the public.
A strategic framework for gender-sensitive cultural management was developed to serve as a practical guide for the Baalbeck International Festivals.
This framework embodies a long-term vision based on the project’s accumulated experience and on establishing a model for cultural development grounded in inclusivity and sustainability.
He noted that close cooperation between the Baalbek International Festival and UNESCO will lead to success.
The statement concluded by noting that this framework is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 on quality education.
