The Egyptian Stock Exchange shrugged off the geopolitical tensions that affected a number of stock markets.
It posted strong gains during last week’s trading, supported by a rise in the market capitalization of most indices.
The market capitalization of listed companies rose to 4.1038 trillion pounds by the end of the week.
This compares to 3.9368 trillion pounds at the start of the week.
As a result, the market posted gains of approximately 167 billion pounds, representing a 4.2% increase.
Similarly, the market capitalization of the EGX 30 index rose to 2.0987 trillion pounds,
This represents gains of approximately 55.3 billion pounds and growth of 2.7%.
In contrast, the equally-weighted EGX 70 index posted a stronger performance.
Its market capitalization rose to 1.0465 trillion Egyptian pounds, an increase of 82.3 billion Egyptian pounds and growth of 8.5%.
The market capitalization of the EGX 100 index also rose by 4.6%, while the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) market achieved growth of 8.5%.
Total paid-in capital, however, declined by 0.4% to 591.7 billion pounds.
