Want to travel to the moon? Read this

NASA has announced a crewed mission to the moon that its astronauts will carry out in 2028 as part of the “Artemis 4” mission.

According to NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, the agency is working to accelerate progress and review technical requirements in order to meet the set timeline.

Isaacman said in press statements: “This is how we give Artemis 4 the best possible chance of safely and successfully returning Americans to the surface of the moon in 2028.”

When American astronauts take their first steps on the moon in 2028, a rover and the first elements of a permanent human presence will be waiting for them.

For his part, NASA’s Artemis program manager Jeremy Parsons said that the development of lunar landing modules is proceeding in parallel at two contracted private companies.

These are SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, and Blue Origin, owned by Jeff Bezos.

Parsons said: “Within the Artemis team, we have focused intensely on making progress, with the goal of actually reaching the surface of the moon within the set timeline for 2028.”

He added: “NASA will wait as long as possible before deciding which company will transport the crew to the lunar surface, but both companies are working toward reaching the landing stage in 2028.”
