A memorandum of understanding for academic cooperation was signed between Saint George’s University in Beirut and the University College for Nonviolence and Human Rights at the university’s offices in Ashrafieh.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between St. George’s University and the University College for Nonviolence and Human Rights
began with a welcome address by Vice President Dr. Antoine Haddad, who chaired the meeting.
He outlined the comprehensive framework that led to this agreement, emphasizing the culture of nonviolence that unites the two institutions.
It places academic and humanitarian development at the forefront of the university’s priorities.
There was also an introductory remarks by Dr. Ogharit Younan, who initiated this agreement.
She recalled its various stages and the “strategic thinking that guided its preparation as a philosophy of cooperation
and a societal need in the face of increasing forms of violence.”
She emphasized “the outstanding practical opportunities this will create for students, as well as its role as a model for other universities to follow.”
The agreement was signed on behalf of the university by its president, Dr. Tarek Mitri, with an additional signature from Dean Dr. Hanna Fares, who is responsible for overseeing the implementation of this agreement.
Representing AUNOHR was Dr. Ogharit Younan, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Representing St. George’s University were Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dr. Hanna Fares; Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Dr. Iskandar Nehme; and Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Dr. Joelle Massoud.
Also present were Media Relations Officer George Al-Deek and Chief of Staff to the President Rola Kirouz.
Representing AUNOHR was the university’s founder and member of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Nader Siraj.
