Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam held the regular ministerial meeting this morning at the Government Palace
during which the outcomes of Nawaf Salam’s visit to Iraq were discussed.
Minister of Information Dr. Paul Marqus announced the highlights of the meeting.
He said: “At the beginning of the meeting, regarding his visit to Iraq.”
The Prime Minister began his remarks by noting that the government is always prepared to take advantage of all options available at any given moment.
He continued: “In order to achieve the goals of economic recovery,
we must take advantage of all regional and international support available to facilitate the path to recovery and nation-building.”
He added: “In this context, upon his return from Iraq
President Salam contacted His Excellency the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Asaad al-Shibani.”
He emphasized “the importance of strengthening regional cohesion for the mutual benefit of all.”
He noted that “a discussion took place during the meeting regarding connecting Lebanon,
a result of this visit, to the Basra–Tripoli pipeline, given the mutual benefit and Lebanon’s significant storage capacity.”
He added “With plans to build a new refinery
all of this comes in light of Iraq’s determination to increase oil production.”
He said: “Discussions also took place regarding the formation of a Lebanese Iraqi
technical committee to examine these issues and move forward with them.”
He continued: “Particularly regarding cooperation between the two countries on the Special Economic Zone”
He noted “a government initiative to rehabilitate storage tanks to facilitate the overland transport of oil, as is the case with the Banias Port.”
He concluded: “A second issue that was addresse is strengthening the electricity
supply in cooperation with the Turkish authorities.”
