The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik signed two strategic memoranda of understanding—one for a media partnership and the other for strategic cooperation—with the “Samir Kassir” and “Maharat” foundations.
The goal of the media partnership is to develop media education, enhance the skills of journalism students, and bridge the gap between academic knowledge and professional practice.
The university was represented at the signing by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Father Professor Farid Al-Majbar.
The Samir Kassir Foundation was represented by Malek Maroua, Director of the Center for the Defense of Media and Cultural Freedoms.
The Maharat Foundation was represented by its Executive Director, Rula Mikhael.
The event was attended by a number of academics, journalists, and students.
Dr. Edmond Bou Dagher, Chair of the Department of Journalism and Communication, emphasized that the new media partnership will support academic research, media literacy, and journalistic ethics.
It will also address digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and the rights of journalists and their protection from attacks.
For his part, Marouah stressed the need to prepare journalism students to deal with risks during wars and crises.
This is achieved through training on protecting sources and information and making decisions under pressure.
For her part, Makhail explained that the development of the media requires ongoing cooperation between universities and professional organizations.
Especially in light of the challenges posed by misinformation, declining trust, and the rapid development of artificial intelligence.
In conclusion, Father Al-Majbar emphasized that students will be the primary beneficiaries of the two agreements, as they provide practical experience that enhances their professional readiness and their ability to report the truth responsibly and clearly.
