Lebanon is just days away from entering the 5G era.
Work has begun on installing the first transmission stations as part of a national project
aimed at modernizing the telecommunications network and improving the quality of internet services over the next three years.
The first phase involves installing 50 of the 150 transmission stations, which will be distributed equally between Alfa and Touch.
Technical teams will begin installation work early next week.
Priority will be given to areas experiencing high network traffic, with the remaining phases to be completed sequentially as new equipment arrives.
The total cost of the 5G project in Lebanon is approximately $1 million.
It includes upgrading parts of the network infrastructure and activating 5G operating licenses, while the base stations were secured through a grant.
It is expected that between 20 and 25% of subscribers will benefit during the first phase.
This percentage is expected to gradually rise to about 70% of the population as the project is completed.
The impact of launching the 5G network in Lebanon is not limited to improving internet speed and network stability.
It also includes supporting digital transformation, enhancing e-services, and enabling remote work.
It will attract investments, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the digital economy and putting Lebanon back on the map of technological development.
