Ottawa, the Canadian capital, hosted a flag-raising ceremony for the Lebanese flag in front of the Canadian Parliament.
The ceremony was held in celebration of Lebanese Heritage Month. Attending were Minister Lina Metlej Diab and Minister Steve McKinnon, along with MPs Fayçal El-Khoury and Ziad Bou Latif, and members of the Lebanese community.
The flag-raising brought together representatives of the Canadian government and Parliament, as well as community members, in a celebration of their homeland’s heritage.
The gathering also provided an opportunity to express appreciation for Canada’s support for Lebanon and its institutions, foremost among them the army and the security forces.
During the ceremony, the speaker thanked Canada for its steadfast commitment to Lebanon.
He also affirmed Lebanon’s determination to restore the decision on war and peace and to place it solely in the hands of the state.
In speaking about the community, he praised the exceptional generosity of Lebanese Canadians toward their homeland.
He also stressed the importance of building a state that deserves their trust, values their talents, and makes room for their aspirations.
Thus, the celebration combined pride in Lebanese heritage with appreciation for what community members contribute to their homeland, as the Cedar flag flew in front of Parliament in Ottawa.
