Egyptian stock exchange posts gains despite September decline

The Egyptian Stock Exchange recorded gains during the third quarter of this year, despite most of its indices declining in September.

Data showed that the main index, the EGX 30, rose by 2.79%, closing at 51,894 points.

During the period from the beginning of July to the end of September, the index reached its highest level at 56,937 points.

In contrast, it recorded its lowest level at 50,389 points, reflecting the market’s fluctuating performance over the three months.

Index gains in the third quarter

The EGX 70 Equal Weighted Index stood out with a rise of 20.14%, reaching 18,625 points.

Likewise, the EGX 100 Equal Weighted Index climbed by 17.19%, closing at 24,776 points.

The EGX 33 Index also rose by 9.79%, while the low volatility index increased by 6.86%.

The main capped index posted gains of 3.66%, while the Treasury Bond Index rose by 5.30%.

September declines weigh on the market

On a monthly basis, the main index fell by 5.42%, compared to its close of 54,866 points at the end of August.

The EGX 70 also lost about 10.85%, and the EGX 100 Index dropped by 9.12%.

In addition, the EGX 33 Index declined by 4.53%, and the low volatility index fell by 7.15%. In contrast, the Treasury Bond Index rose by 1.42%, closing at 2,667 points, amid a clear divergence between the monthly performance and the quarterly results of the Egyptian Stock Exchange’s main indices.
