Researcher Dr. Sally Hammoud organized a roundtable discussion on artificial intelligence in newsrooms.
The event was held in collaboration with the Ministries of Technology and Artificial Intelligence and of Media.
The session brought together thirty journalists from broadcast and print media outlets, as well as emerging digital platforms.
During the meeting, which took place on Tuesday, September 1, and lasted about two hours, participants discussed the rapid transformations that artificial intelligence technologies are bringing about in journalism.
They also shared their experiences using these tools for gathering and verifying information, as well as for producing, editing, and publishing content.
Hamoud emphasized that artificial intelligence is no longer a future option within media organizations.
Rather, it has become a reality that raises new questions about the roles and responsibilities of journalists.
Therefore, she stressed the importance of listening to the experiences of those working in the sector, with the aim of developing policies that serve both the profession and the public.
Attendees also discussed the impact of smart tools on daily workflows.
They emphasized the need to harness their potential while maintaining the accuracy and credibility of information and upholding professional ethics.
The meeting is part of research Hamoud is conducting in her capacity as a visiting researcher at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.
She is also working on a policy paper in collaboration with the Slovak government, which includes recommendations to help media organizations keep pace with the digital transformation.
A second roundtable is scheduled to take place soon and may be held online to broaden participation among journalists.
