According to press reports today, Friday, President Joseph Aoun signed the general amnesty law.
In this context, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam contacted Aoun, expressing his appreciation for the president’s signing of the general amnesty law, which the Lebanese people had long awaited.
Salam instructed the relevant departments at the Prime Minister’s Office to publish the law today in a special edition of the Official Gazette.
Earlier, the Lebanese Parliament passed the long-awaited general amnesty law.
A number of convicted prisoners, detainees, and fugitives are expected to benefit from this decision, the first of its kind since 1991.
The Parliamentary Presidency announced in a statement at the time, “The approval of a bill aimed at granting a general amnesty and, on an exceptional basis, reducing the duration of certain sentences.”
