The “Batroun International Festivals” Committee launched the 10th edition of the Batroun Mediterranean Short Film Festival.
The event coincided with the third edition of the “Batroun in Pictures” exhibition, under the patronage of Minister of Information Paul Morcos and Minister of Tourism Laura Al-Khazen Lahoud, and was attended by a wide range of officials, artists, and cultural figures.
The events kicked off at the Fishermen’s Wharf, before attendees toured the photographs on display in the streets of Old Batroun.
They then moved to “Beit al-Mughterib” for the opening of the film screenings.
Said Fayyad, chairman of the Festivals Committee, emphasized that the suspension of concerts this summer was out of respect for the circumstances Lebanon is currently facing.
However, he stressed that cultural activities reflecting Batroun’s identity and heritage would continue, announcing preparations for a major festival next summer.
For his part, the Minister of Information noted that photography had become a symbol, a message, and a source of meaning at the festival.
For her part, the Minister of Tourism affirmed that cinema is a powerful tool for promoting tourism, as it preserves the memory of places and reimagines them through fresh eyes.
The Batroun Mediterranean Short Film Festival is screening twenty-two films, including eight Lebanese films and fourteen foreign films.
It also includes a children’s program, a screenwriting workshop, and meetings between directors and festival programmers.
The events will conclude on Sunday evening with an awards ceremony and a screening of the film “A Magical and Sad World” by director Celine Arij.
