Lebanon’s participation in the 20th Mediterranean Games has come to a close, with Lebanon wrapping up its campaign in Taranto with the following results.
Held in the Italian city of Taranto, the event yielded an outstanding result, with shot putter Samer Sarkis winning the gold medal in the shot put competition.
The men’s and women’s 200-meter races marked the final event for the Lebanese delegation.
Sprinters Nour al-Din Hadid and Aziza Spiti competed. Both finished in tenth place overall, with Hadid clocking a time of 21.17 seconds and Spiti recording a time of 24.07 seconds.
French coach Wilfried Krantz praised the runners’ performance.
He confirmed that the times recorded were their best of the current season.
Hadid explained that he was close to reaching the final, as he was only 0.1 seconds behind the qualifier, despite the strong winds affecting the competitors.
He revealed that he is ready to participate in a training camp and a competition in the Sultanate of Oman, in preparation for the Asian Games in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan.
For her part, Sbeiti expressed her joy at returning to competition after a two-year hiatus due to injury.
She also thanked the Lebanese Olympic Committee and the Athletics Federation for their support and for giving her the opportunity to participate.
With that, Lebanon concluded its Mediterranean Games campaign with a valuable gold medal and promising results in track and field.
