Unified Council of Community Organizations in Michigan

A large-scale meeting in the state of Michigan approved the establishment of a unified council for community organizations in Michigan.

The goal is to strengthen coordination among organizations and leaders and to unify efforts within a more effective community framework.

The meeting, held at the Bint Jbeil Cultural Center, was attended by more than 60 community leaders, heads of organizations, religious leaders, lawyers, professionals, and activists.

The meeting was convened at the invitation of Dr. Nasib Fawaz, president of the Lebanese Diaspora Business Council.

Fawaz highlighted the importance of establishing a council that brings community organizations together under a single umbrella.

He also stressed the need to build on past experiences and to engage young leaders and talent.

For his part, the initiative’s coordinator, Dr. Ibrahim Dahini, presented the council’s vision, mission, objectives, and proposed organizational structure.

He emphasized that the Council seeks to build a unified community voice that defends the interests of the diaspora at the local, national, and international levels.

Likewise, the initiative’s coordinator, Dr. Lina Saad, called for expanding youth participation in shaping the community’s future.

The participants approved the proposal to establish the council by a clear majority and without objection.

Four participants abstained from voting.

The steering committee will reach out to institutions to nominate their representatives, in addition to drafting the bylaws and establishing mechanisms for membership and decision-making.

It was also decided to form a delegation to meet with officials in Michigan and Washington.
