Al-Shami declines award in Egypt and the reason raises questions

Al-Shami apologizes for the award.. what did he say?

In an unexpected move, Syrian artist Al-Shami surprised his fans by announcing he would not attend his honoring ceremony for the “The Best” award in Egypt. He didn’t stop at simply declining to attend, but went further and suggested the award be given to another young artist instead, raising the question: why did Al-Shami decide to give up his own honor?

Al-Shami announced his decision via a “story” on his official Instagram account. He sent a message of thanks to Egypt and his loyal fans, affirming how proud he was of the honor.

He wrote: “Thank you, great Egypt, for honoring me, and thank you to my loyal fans. This makes nine awards, but I’m forced to apologize for not attending due to how busy I am during this period.”

But the surprise came in the second part of his message, where he added: “I wish it could go to one of the new generation who deserve to be honored with such an important award.”

In this way, Al-Shami didn’t just apologize for his absence  he called for the opportunity to be given to a new talent deserving of recognition and support.

Is Al-Shami stepping away from the artistic scene?

Al-Shami’s decision to skip the honoring ceremony coincides with his decision to postpone the release of his debut music album, which fans had been expecting to come out during this current period.

The Syrian artist explained that the difficult circumstances in Lebanon and the Arab world prompted him to reconsider the album’s release date.

He also stated, in a video he posted on Instagram, that he doesn’t feel it’s appropriate to talk about his artistic work while others are facing harsh humanitarian conditions.

A surprising decision and a notable message

Although Al-Shami justified his absence by citing his current commitments, his suggestion to give the award to another artist added a different dimension to his decision.

Did Al-Shami want to send a message to the organizers of artistic awards about the importance of supporting new talent, or was it simply a personal gesture expressing his appreciation for the rising generation?

Either way, the question remains: could Al-Shami’s apology turn into a real opportunity to honor a new talent?
