University sports season kicks off with 42 disciplines

The Lebanese University Sports Federation has launched its new championship season, opening with competitions in swimming, badminton, table tennis, squash and padel. These events mark the start of a comprehensive calendar bringing together students from Lebanese universities around competition and camaraderie.

New sports widen participation
The number of sports included in this season’s program has risen to 42, with the addition of new disciplines, most notably rugby and fencing. This expansion gives students more options to take part and creates additional opportunities to discover talent and help it develop.

University sports championships will continue in succession, following a schedule the federation has circulated to all universities. This organization aims to ensure the continuity of sports activity and strengthen ties among students from different parts of Lebanon.

The new season also builds on the wide participation seen in previous championships, which demonstrated universities’ interest in supporting their student-athletes and helping them combine academic achievement with athletic development. This continuity gives young talents space to gain experience, within an environment that combines competition with a spirit of fellowship.

Preparing for international competitions
At the same time, the federation is working to strengthen the presence of sports within universities and prepare a generation capable of competing both locally and internationally.

Among the upcoming milestones is the World Skiing Championship in China next January. South Korea will also host the World University Championship next summer, with expectations that Lebanon will take part with a delegation of more than 150 athletes. These participations offer a chance to carry the experience gained on university fields into international competitions, giving Lebanese athletes a wider platform to showcase their abilities.
