Microsoft has unveiled new AI devices from its Surface lineup, designed to run models and agents locally.
The company is targeting developers who want to carry out their tasks directly on their computers and reduce reliance on cloud services.
The announcement came during an event in San Francisco, where the company showcased the Surface Laptop Ultra device and the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box workstation.
Both devices are powered by Nvidia’s RTX Spark chip.
The laptop starts at $2,600, while the more powerful version starts at $3,700.
The top-spec configuration reaches a price of around $5,900. The workstation starts at $6,000 and includes development tools that help build and test AI applications.
Alongside this, Microsoft introduced an “execution containers” feature in Windows 11.
The feature allows AI agents to run within isolated environments, with defined access permissions and available actions, in order to enhance security.
CEO Satya Nadella confirmed that the company will make the feature available to all Windows 11 users.
He explained that carrying out complex tasks requires coordinating models, context, memory and tools.
To attract developers, the company is offering a discount of up to $1,000 for trading in MacBook Pro devices.
The new AI devices also support content creation, video processing and gaming.
Along the same lines, Dell announced the XPS 16 Creator Edition, priced at around $3,800, with deliveries set to begin later in October.
