Major General Hassan Shakir, Director General of General Security, launched the service during his official visit to the United States.
a service for issuing biometric passports and collecting fingerprints at the Lebanese Consulate General in Detroit, Michigan.
The launch took place during a ceremony attended by dignitaries and officials from the Lebanese Embassy, as well as members of the Lebanese diaspora.
Major General Shakir spoke, stating that “the introduction of the biometric system into consular operations is not merely a technical upgrade.”
He continued: “Rather, it constitutes a practical step toward building a more advanced, more accurate, and more secure administration.”
From Michigan, the technical and operational delegation accompanying Major General Shukair—comprising Colonel Wael Ghaddar and Advisor Wael Ayoub—traveled to Washington, D.C.
There, the new service was launched, and the first biometric passport was issued at the Lebanese Embassy in the presence of embassy staff who had been trained on the program. The initiative was welcomed by Lebanese Embassy officials and members of the Lebanese community.
