The town of Baqaa Kfra is preparing to host the Apple Festival on September 12 and 13, organized by the “Ard” Association in collaboration with the municipality.
The festival aims to support farmers and encourage them to remain on their land, in addition to highlighting the importance of local agricultural production.
The “Farmers’ Market” allows farmers to display their products and connect directly with merchants and agricultural associations.
This initiative also helps market the apple harvest and open up new markets for it.
This year’s festival features a larger number of supporting organizations, as well as the experience of picking apples directly from the trees.
The program includes an apple product exhibition, food tasting stations, a variety of artistic performances, as well as Sunday Masses.
The organizers also emphasize the need to adhere to agricultural standards, from spraying and production all the way through to packaging and marketing.
Elie Makhlouf, mayor of Baqaa Kfra and president of the Bsharri Municipalities Union, explained that the festival is being held for the third consecutive year.
He noted that apple production in the town and district amounts to about 1.5 million crates and constitutes a primary source of livelihood for many families.
The Apple Festival in Baqaa Kfra sends a message to farmers: “We are by your side,” because their continued presence on their land preserves agriculture and Lebanon’s identity.
