“Al-Shami is not a passing phase”… With these words, composer and lyricist Salah El Kurdi expressed his admiration for the artistic career of Al-Shami, affirming that he has succeeded in establishing himself as a well-rounded talent who combines songwriting, composing and singing.
El Kurdi made these remarks during the press conference held ahead of his concert at Beirut Hall. When asked about the experiences of young artists who write, compose and sing their own music, how he evaluates these experiences, and who he chooses to collaborate with, he said that a new generation of artists is pursuing different approaches to songmaking, among them Al-Shami, Al-Silawi and Al-Akhras.
He said that every artist has the right to set his own rules and present his musical identity in his own way, noting that some young talents have gone beyond simple success to become influential phenomena in the artistic scene.
He pointed out that this generation expresses its feelings through new lyrics and melodies, moving away from the traditional rules that were more fixed in the past.
Why did Salah El Kurdi choose Al-Shami?
When asked which young artist he might choose to collaborate with, El Kurdi did not hesitate to name Al-Shami.
He affirmed that Al-Shami has proven that his success is not temporary, pointing to his clear talent in writing lyrics, composing and singing, in addition to a good vocal quality and strong charisma.
He described him as a smart artist who has managed to build his own identity and reach audiences in a distinctive way.
Artificial intelligence lacks real feeling
Asked about the impact of artificial intelligence on the work of songwriters and composers, Salah El Kurdi spoke about the influence of artificial intelligence on the music industry, especially given the ability of modern technologies to generate lyrics, melodies and complete songs.
Despite the major advances in this field, El Kurdi ruled out the possibility that artificial intelligence could fully replace composers or artists.
He explained that technology may succeed in reintroducing old songs with new styles, or in creating different musical arrangements, but it remains limited when it comes to genuine feeling and true artistic creation.
He stressed that a song does not rely on lyrics and melody alone, but on emotion and human experience — an element that artificial intelligence still cannot replicate in the same way.
