Japan’s Nikkei extended gains for the third consecutive session, approaching the historic 70,000-point mark.
Record the highest level
During trading, Japan’s Nikkei index hit a high of more than 70,000 points.
The broader Topix index rose by zero to six percent to reach above 40,000 points.
This strong performance was supported by easing concerns related to tensions in the Middle East, as well as continued demand for AI stocks in Japan.
Gains for tech companies
Technology and semiconductor companies have seen significant gains.
Lazartec jumped more than thirteen percent to close at a record high.
Murata rose more than 3%, and Yaskawa Electric climbed less than 3%.
Some major stocks fell, with T Holdings down more than 3%.
SoftBank lost more than three percent, and Olympus fell three percent.
What are investors waiting for?
Investors await the US Federal Reserve’s monetary policy decision, as well as the statements of its new chairman, Kevin Warsh, on inflation and interest rates.
Markets widely expect the US central bank to keep interest rates unchanged, which could support continued momentum in global markets in the coming period.
