BNP Paribas posts surge in profits

BNP Paribas recorded a notable rise in profits during the third quarter, beating analysts’ expectations, boosted by strong performance in its investment banking division. The French bank also announced a share buyback plan, reflecting its confidence in the outlook for its business.

Net profit rose by fourteen percent, reaching three billion, four hundred and sixty million euros. This exceeded the average analyst forecast of three billion, two hundred and thirty million euros, according to a survey conducted by the bank.

The bank’s revenue also climbed year-on-year to thirteen billion, seven hundred and sixty million euros, slightly surpassing estimates. BNP Paribas is the largest bank in the eurozone by assets.

BNP Paribas profits support share buyback
In light of these results, the bank plans to launch a share buyback program worth one billion, three hundred million euros in November. The announcement came after the bank achieved a key capital strength indicator by the end of June, ahead of schedule.

RBC analysts had expected a program worth one billion, two hundred million euros. The announced plan therefore exceeded their estimates, reinforcing the positive message conveyed by the quarterly results.

Meanwhile, French banks are facing pressure linked to rising government bond yields, amid concerns over France’s public finances and banks’ exposure to sovereign debt. Nevertheless, the bank played down the impact of these developments, as its results showed growth in quarterly profits and revenue.
